Born in 1974 as The Real Community Theatre Company, The Urban Spectrum Theatre Company exists to provide quality, accessible entertainment to the inner city, and to offer an opportunity for amateurs to work with more experienced performers.

Urban Spectrum Theatre has made its home within community centers, serving a widely diverse audience. Its shows are multicultural and multi-ethnic. Its unique "admission by donation" policy ensures that no one will ever be turned away from performance if there is a seat available. No other group in the metropolitan area can make that claim. The theatre company has staged serious dramas, political satires, full scale musicals, comedies, touring children's shows, orginal dramas by local playwrights, and, for the past 10 years, an annual children's holiday production that is created by and for the community, in working with experienced performers.

Urban Spectrum Theatre is dedicated to its inner city audience, but also reaches out to the surrounding communities, to bring urban and rural together for an expanding experience.
